Geography

Siegen is a town-city with quaint and predominantly white houses and buildings peppered through uneven mountain valleys. It lies in the branched basin on the upper part of the Sieg River, where the side valleys branch off to several directions. Most of its surrounding mountains are covered in coppice. The entire city rests upon a holiday road of the Germans and the Dutch, which is called the Oranier Route, a long road that joins several cities, towns and regions which are associated with the House or Orange, one of the most influential houses in Siegen's history.

Siegen is quite an isolated city, despite it's influx of visitors. The nearest cities from Siegen are Hagen (located 83 km to the north), Koblenx (105 km southwest) and Cologne (93 km west) Further north of Siegen lies the lands of Sauerland, northwest lies the Rothaargebirge, and southwest lis the Westerwald.

Siegen has a total land area of 115 km, which is further divided into 6 zones, as mandated by law. It has a median elevation of 290 meters above sea level.60% of the whole land it encompasses is wooded, which makes it one of Germany's greenest cities. It's highest center is the university town, located in the district seat of the city.
